Sliding back into the cool water, I watch my human mate quake at the ledge, uncertainty and lust painting her face. She is wet from the water, wet for me. The smell of her arousal scents the air, pushing me to the edge of my control.
No matter how badly I want to take her and pin her down, to find the deep, heated spot of her again—to shove my shaft so fully in that nothing remains to deny our bond—I wait. Male dragons, even alphas—at least those of my ancestry—do not force femdragons to take them whether they are in heat or not. There is honor in being chosen, and if competition arises, fighting to the death for that honor.
Watching Issa’s toes curl in her open-foot armor, the need to slide my tongue and taste her there—to taste her everywhere—hits hard. I see myself tonguing her from foot to delicate ear, up and down until only her taste remains in my mouth. Until my saliva coats her skin everywhere.
Since I no longer have wings to hover out, to offer as cover and protection, I raise my hand to her instead, turning my palm upward and spanning out my fingers. Her gaze drops to them, studies them, but then her throat bobs as if she is swallowing hard. Swallowing me because I know my own arousal blooms in the space around us.
The comet glow sizzles my skin as I wait for her to choose me, pressuring me to relieve the terrible ache in my loins. Painful heat builds inside me, sliding down to gather heavily in my cock, and the chilling water does almost nothing to help.
Only Issa’s deep, my thoughts roar. Only she can take my pain away now. My hand begins to tremble between us.
Then she puts her fingers on her skin, hooks them under her weak coverings, and pulls them off. She does the same with her foot armor. Her toes curl again.
I slowly raise my gaze to find her wet, naked form standing before me, above me on the ledge, and though she’s not a dragon, my body responds wildly. Delicious, enchanting softness everywhere, my mouth waters.
A sliver of rage almost takes over, fury that I feel anything for this human… but it doesn’t last. No matter how hard I have fought for it to remain this past day, it doesn’t. She is not evil, I note. She is naïve. Young.
And she is mine now.
Possession, hot and ferocious, stabs my chest. The need to claim her and finish this builds high. And my gaze—deepest shadows!—my gaze will not stray from her soft mounds and peaked nipples. They are peaked for me, me! Not a young dragonling. Me.
I do not understand humankind, nor how they have survived for so long, but I find that I like their softness—Issa’s softness—a little too much.
Claim her before another male comes. Claim her before another dragon sees her worth and chooses humanity willingly!
She lowers herself into the water and a growl escapes me.
